I need to remove this locking hitch pin and all the key does is spin. what would be my best bet for removal ? cut, torch, drill ? sorry about the pic size, I tried to resize

Please do not post pics in the threads that are bigger than 800x600.
This one was 1600x1200, way to big unless you have a 42" plasma screen.

I think I would try to cut it off with a sawsall first. Just make sure that you have a couple of blades before you start. I guess that if you were pretty handy with a torch you could use one but that is a tight spot to get it in to.

Can you take it to a local body shop, pay them little money to torch it off?

Cutting disk on a 4" angle grinder would make short work of it. Just cut the whole lock part right in two until you get enough of it for it to fall off. A torch would work too, but I'd try a cut disk first and if you need to get at the part closest to the hitch, go at it from the bottom. Make sure you wear eye protection!

 

I used to have one of those. You put the key in and unscrew the end, about 30 turns... It turns freely without the key, but with the key in it unscrews. Of course I assume you tried that...

 

It turns freely with the key in, thats the prob nothing is catching and releasing.

 

Sounds like a grinder is your best bet then. Bummer.

 

BFH + heavy large pipe. Should pop off. Small heavy pipe on internal piece+BFH=lock case contacts hitch intrnals pass through. Busting these things off is SOP for yard apes at any Marina.

 

I think flamed has the answer.
Put the key in and hold that end tight.
Then rotate the opposite end a whole bunch of turns.
The key should unscrew a small bolt that screws into the end of the rod and will remove the end that keeps you from removing the pin.
Just keep turning. If nothing happens by lunch time then cut the sucker off with some sort of disk cutting tool.
