Antenna Replacement

Hi everyone - I have a 2000 4runner. Over the last 14 years the motorized antenna has gone out twice. The first time a about 10 years ago, the second time about 4 years ago. Think it's about time I went with a non-motorized solution.

I've searched and read about the Taco Whip Antenna, then I called my dealership and they want $72 for the antenna assembly 86300-35090. Most places online are charging $50...but it seems that the assembly doesn't include the mast any more so that would be another $40.

That seems excessive for an antenna - I see rubber ones with cable for ~$15 on amazon. Has anyone gone down this path and bought an aftermarket antenna assembly? Any recommendations for a cheaper solution than going with the toyota part?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I used a universal antenna from O'Reilly Auto Parts (p/n CK-US07R).

I have used several different aftermarket ones with good results over the years.

I never had good luck with the ones you raise and lower by hand I think because they spent most of the time in the up right position .

If you run under lots of low branches and don`t want the hassle of removing it all the time . You might want to look at a spring loaded mount.

I bought an aftermarket assembly from O'Reilly, along with a rubber replacement mast. Just installed today. Running the wire was a pain in the a - but it looks good, have good reception and best of all no more grinding motor every time I turn on the car.

Thanks for the help.
