another what's this popping noise post
Hey all,
I just started having some popping noises coming from the back of my 4Runner. When I take a left turn I hear a "thunk" coming from the left rear wheel well. When I turn right, there is a "thunk" coming from the right wheel well. Also, when I accelerate or come to a stop, sometimes there is a popping noise coming from below the rear seat. It doesn't seem to do it when in reverse. I read a post a while back about the drive shaft sometimes doing this noise. What do you all think? I'm not sure if the two sounds I'm hearing are related. I checked the spare tire and it's not loose and I don't have anything rolling around heavy enough in the back to make such a noise. Any help would be appreciated.
Have fun.

That's a tough one to guess at without hearing it first hand. My first impression is the bottle jack rolling around under the seat but i'm sure you checked that. Maybe its a worn shock or two sticking. Just guessing here, sorry.

Yeah, same thing that Matt said. Check that the jack isn't moving around. I like to raise the jack while it is in the compartment so that it's a snug fit.
As for the rear noise, check the sway bar linkages, bushings, nuts and bolts. Basically, check any of the inkages that connect to the axle.
