I did a search and couldn't find anything so here it is:
I have 97 4runner that has the 16" limited 5-spoke alloys. The runner came with stock 15" rims originally. When I get new rotors, can I upgrade them to the larger rotors without getting new calipers (and etc) or do I have to stick with the same size rotors as what I have now?

And no, I have no intention of going tundra brakes even though they are better. Dont have that kind of money or access to tools and I don't want to pay anyone to do it for me. I need to learn how to change rotors/pads before I start modding the brake system.

P.S. this runner is a 4cyl with 115k miles on it. It came with leather (not seat covers, but aftermarket upholstered leather interior) and the 5 spoke alloys from a 2001 sport edition. I paid 5700 incl tax title license. Did I get a good deal?

I don't have "bug brake" experience with 3rd gen runners in particular but you will have to space the calipers farther away from the hub to accept a larger rotor. You may be able to have an adapter machined to increase the radius fron the center of the hub but you'll have to find a rotor to work first. If nobody makes a kit you have some work to do. Hmm, thats what I thought too. I was hoping I was wrong though, but I guess I might just have to stick with the old size rotors.

if u see someone who has upgraded to the tundra calipers, im sure they will be selling their old calipers, given they are off a 16" wheel.

You would be surprised what a set of slotted quality rotors with good performance pads will do. I've had really good luck with PBR greenstuff pads. I recently saw some slotted rotors on e-bay for a decent price. Just check the quality. find out who makes the rotor.
