Another gear question/guess

OK here we go, 2000 SR5, 3.4. I have 255/70/16 Uniroyal tires (street tread). At 60 mph with the OD off I'm tacking 2650 rpms, with the OD on it's 1850 rpms. Any ideas on what the rear gears might be? And I'm sure it's been asked before, where is the code on the truck to figure what gears are in the truck? thanks, EDH

Mathematically it works out to 3.949 with your OD off numbers and 4.054 with the OD on numbers. I'd guess 4.10 then.

re: another gear question/guess

Thanks, to Loosehead and FlamedX4, you were both right on, the code was in the door and thanks for the chart, perfect. the reason I asked the question, unlike someone on another thread who states his rpms are to high, I think mine could be higher. Hell the red line isn't until 5500 rpm's and I'm cruising at 2100 at 70ish. So I'm thinking maybe a gear change to get a little deeper in the rpm range. any comments? pretty much on the street and very little off road. thanks, EDH

I wouldn't change gears just to change your rpm's. If power feels fine to you like it is, I would keep the gears like they are. I also have a 2000 4runner with 4.10 gears and a 3.4 and I would think 4.10 is alot of gear for 255's. but that's me

also keep in mind that your speedo is going to be a little off with a different size tire than stock. I take it that 265/70's were on there stock?? so with a smaller tire, your speedo is going to be reading a little fast.

MTXRIDE, hey thanks for the comments, the speedo is a little off, but not much. What I do now for passing and such is take the OD off and floor it. Just seems a little soft in the midrange. But I will take good advice and leave well enough alone, maybe headers would give me alittle more umph....they were pretty helpful on my T-100. thanks again, EDH
