another EGR thread

Guys- wondering about my EGR valve- From all I have read- your engine works better with a properly functioning EGR valve- so my questions are:

1. Why does the motor run cooler when the EGR valve is open in a no load situation?
2. Removal of the EGR valve will hurt mileage and power?

thanks! (2.7L motor- 2000 Tacoma 2wd short cab)

Your temperature shouldn't change. Your engine should stall when the valve is open.

The EGR is inputting gas that can't burn during the combustion process -- a "buffer" if I remember the term right. It helps keep peak combustion temps down to prevent the formation of NOx.

Don't remove it. It won't really help anything.
