Question Amsoil...a year...really?

Hi,

Last summer (August) I put the Amsoil series 2000 0W-30 engine oil in my '99 4runner that, at the time had ~57,500 miles on it. It's roughly six months and 6,500 miles later now. I know that Amsoil says the oil will last 35K and should be changed once a year (filter changed every 6 months). Is this true, really?

This is the first time that I've used the Amsoil, I know it's good stuff, but I just want to make sure that I'm not messing with things internally; especially with the addition of the S/C about 4,500 miles ago.

If you have any thoughts on this they would be appreciated....

Your Amsoil filter is good for 12,500 miles. Let it run it's course, then change it. Personally, I'd get your oil anlyzed at 10k miles to make sure you can go to the full 35k miles.

I run 10k mile intervals on mine with the "cheapo" Amsoil 5-30.

I say you're good to go

If you have doubts, send some oil in for analysis and act based upon the results. That is the only way to know if that change interval is "safe" for you. If you search the previous threads, you will see posts agreeing or disagreeing with that interval, based purely upon the look of the oil, smell, taste, gut feelings and pure guesses. The ONLY way to know if the oil is suitable for continued use in your rig is to get it tested.

I'm sure Amsoil is good stuff but I couldn't see going past 10k with any oil;better safe than sorry. The oil may maintain is original viscosity after a long period but the oil itself does get dirty even with filter changes since those filters can only do so much. I use Mobile 1 syn and I don't like going much over 7k between changes.

i use the series 2000 which i beleive know has a new name(same product) the service intervals are true. If you don't want to get the oil analyzed you can always just do a filter/oil change every 10,000-12,500 miles. It is a bit anal, but that way you will know your oil is fresh

Thanks guys! I think I see how much it is to analyse it and if it's almost the same to just change it, I'll go that in a couple of months (10-12K).

FilthyRich: the shocks and springs are awesome: thanks again!!!
