Amsoil vs. K and N vs. TRD filter

I have seen people recommended those brands. So which one should I get. Advantages and Disadvantages?

For my TOY, Amsoil filter costs me $32.30 each while K & N costs me $59.99 each and the TRD costs even more $79.99 or so.

Any help will be appreciated.

I have had K&n and amsoil. IMO the Amsoil filters better, as for power, i couldn't tell a difference.
I would recommend the Amsoil

Personally, I like the Amsoil filter over the K&N. I've had the K&N filter for a year, then I recently bought an amsoil filter..you can tell the difference at WOT.

I would go with an Amsoil™ air filter. I'm running one in my 4Runner and it's great.

Some good advice from Gadget here:

Back in the day, like 30 years ago K&N was the hot ticket and it was the cutting edge of filtering technology, but now times have changed and technology has greatly improved the state of the art in filtration. K&N has failed to keep up and have been surving on their sticker fame.

In every standardized filtration test AMSOIL just flat out spanks K&N and everything else out there. It is the cutting edge of todays filtering technology.

Place a K&N next to an AMSOIL filter and just look at them for yourself. There shouldn't be any doubt in your mind which of the two is going to be better at filtering dust out of the air.

Here is my take on the whole thing. It is your car, you use what you want. There is nothing wrong with the stock filter. Just don't say that the K&N filters better then an AMSOIL filter, because it does not and never will.

2002 SportEdition,
It does come pre-oiled. But I would get the replacement bottle too since it is not too expensive. I purchased the air filter and the cleaning kit for $43.62 (shipped)

I just popped in an Amsoil air filter. I have read just too many posts from 4Runners trashing K&N and going back to regular Toyota filters or Amsoil. $38 bucks for a filter you can clean & re-use, and with a solid rep? No brainer for me.

Hey pfdaxe!

I got mine from a local 4x4 shop. Try your yellow pages and you should be able to find a local dealer. Mine ran about $29.

The truck is looking good as ususal.

I dont know about every test because the test results are always on web sites or brochures from aggressive amsoil dealers or reps. as far as I am as know a nice pic of a graph only encourages aggressive marketing from amsoil, K&N or TRD to sell the next consumer. caveat emptor.

I think that I am going to give that deckplate mod a shot with an Amsoil filter. I am just kind of afraid to start cutting up my new car. I only have 350 miles on the thing. I wonder how much a replacement air box plastic piece is. Does anybody know?

Just a tip when you do your deckplate mod cybrenergy, don't forget to add a screen to filter leaves, insects, etc. I got the idea from Jalaber's Deckplate Mod write-up
I noticed a few days after I did the mod there were small leaves being trapped in the airbox against the filter

Just my .02 cents

For all you 2nd gen with the v6 engines that desire a Amsoil, here is what I did.

I use to have a Amsoil on my sports car. After I installed a k&n on that vehicle, I had an extra Amsoil. It was a square foam, so I simply cut the foam into the shape of the Runner's K&N's top.

So now I have both a K&N and the amsoil in the Runner! Personally, I can tell the difference between the K&N and the K&N/Amsoil combo.

Don't you guys think that the deckplate mod sucks in a lot of hot engine air? The idea behind the intake is to have cold air come into the engine, not hot air.
