Unhappy alternators???

Ok I have a question about alternators. It is on an 85-2wd pickup. Is there some type of relay or switch in the cab or not on the alternator that regulates the voltage to the battery? This alternator is supposed to have a voltage regulator in the alternator. So could I just run a wire from the charge stud on the alternator to the battery? Elevating what ever is bad on the truck. My charge light was intermittent before and now it is always on, it is a new alternator.

You need to get a Multimeter and check what voltage you are getting off that new alternator you put in.
Post that and we can try to help from there.
