It seems I have a not so good connection w/ my alternator because it just stopped charging yesterday (this has happened once before) so I decided I needed to clean all the connections. Anyone have any tips on getting this darn plug out??? Its being a HUGE pita! Thanks!

 

Mine may be different than yours but I finally had to remove the alternator from it's bracket and turn it around where I could get a grip on the plug, then the plug just wiggled right out. I have the stock 60 amp alt that my 93 came with. I was just checking the brushes to see how much life was left in them. I still had over 1/4 inch of brushes left, so I reassembled it and put it back on.

 

Thats what I was afraid of...

 

Mine only has two bolts holding it on, and you can take the opportunity to replace your drive belts while you’re at it. It's always a good idea to clean the brush area up because as the brushes wear the dust can accumulate along with copper fragments from the contact surface. You may also have other problems since it’s not working. If you remove it you can have it checked out for free at some auto parts stores.

My brushes died shortly after 5k miles..did you ever get that smaller pulley?

 

From and time i spray the living crap out of my alternator with crc electronics contact cleaner. Just well so its clean internally.

Did you ever post up about it? I don't ever remember seeing that. I never got the smaller pulley though. I had a few emails in with him and everything sounded good, but nothing ever came and I sort of forgot about it. I moved further out of town so I never had a problem. Crap, I'm going to be pissed if the alt is shot.

I'll have to pick some of that up. Where should I get it? Autoparts place or hardware?

 

I took the alt to a local shop, and the guy charged me only $28 to replace the brushes.. Not too bad, but still ticked me off. I have the larger pulley, but since I was changing the alt at 11pm on the side of the rainy road, I didn't want to deal with the pulley.
