If at high speeds the wheel isnt perfectly (but close) straight on a flat road when the car is going straight would that be an alignment problem? If so, the only thing it may damage is the tires tread wear correct?

Yes, alighnment issue.
Adjusting the steering wheel center is performed with a "toe" adjustment. Positive toe reading is when the tires are toe'd in the front. A negative reading is toe'd out. For steering stability there is generaly a small amount of toe in designed into the geometry of a factory specs.

Thats exactly what it is. I am going to have mine done today. Find a Firestone service center in your area and see if they are still offering the vehicle lifetime alignment deal for $99.95. You can't beat it. Most places charge $59.95 per alignment. Everytime I am due for an oil change, I get my oil changed, tires rotated, and front end aligned for $35. You can't beat it.
