Went to the junk yard today looking for some stuff for the 4Runner and found a set of Aisin hubs off an old toyota pickup. I already pulled them apart and cleaned the grease from the inside and I sandblasted the hub,cover and knob. Now i just need to paint and rebuild them and then install

 

sweet, i wanna do this soon. how much did you pay for them?

Im going to polish the main body of the hub. The cover ring will be black and not sure about the color on the control handle yet.

 

weren't you checking on the powder coating?....anyways...sorry, just wanted to see if you were thinking about doing it. I did mine a while back...just black with a red dial. They look great. Are you planning on baking the ring and dial? later

 

I'm getting some soon too. Hopefully I won't need to rebuild them though... We'll see. Good luck with the install. Let us know how it goes.

I was checking with Cebby to see if he had powder coated his yet, but said he wont be doing that. So i guess i will be painting them instead. As far as baking the paint, how long and at what temp should this be done.

Edit: I just ordered the new gaskets and o-rings from a local dealer only $14. I will getting them tomorrow.

 

Just curious, but what year/body style pickup was it? If it was '85 or earlier, they won't fit your 4Runner.

 

not sure of the year but it looked early 90's . On the 85 and earlier models i think the cv axles where a larger diameter. the clutch gear wont mesh up with the later models.

 

if you paid $14 for the gaskets then you got ripped.. I think I got mine for like $5.50 from the dealership here in SLO

 

Bingo. The birfield splines on the '85 and earlier are 30-spline, the CV stub shaft splines on '86-'95 are 27-spline. If you got them from an early 90's you're good to go. Just worried me a little when you said "an old Toyota pickup". Kinda implied it was older than yours.

Hey firefighter, It's from an old thread, but I think it's 2 hours at 170....hopefully, someone will correct me if I'm wrong

 

front gasket was .74 cents the free wheel gasket was $1.91 and the rubber o-ring was 3.17 times everything by 2 and it came to $11.64

 

ah, you got a good deal then.. I didn't need the rubber ring.. so that's the extra money..

 

I changed mine over - black with red - looks good and abit more MPG.

 

I ordered 2 bottles of touch up paint that matches my rig so i will be painting the dials that color and the rings black. Only problem is the paint wont be here till next week I think red or yellow would stick out to much on my forest green rig

 

yup, but hey it might now be too bad.....have you stripped them yet?
