What is the best air filter???
I have a 1999 SR-5 3.4 V6 4Runner. Stock, as i have only had it two weeks.
I have priced out the K&N and The TRD versions. My dealer says the K&N is no better than stock. But, I had good success with it in my 91 4 cyl. Toy pick up. I see alot of you are using the amsoil filter. I live in canada and have yet to find a source for the amsoil. The best price I have found for the K&N is $90 canadian and $150 for the TRD from my local Toyota dealer. I wonder just how different they really are.

I dont have the answer to your question. However, I thought I add a reminder that the "oil soaked" air filters do tend to get oil on the MAF ultimatly causing a Lean condition on alot of vehicles. I would suggest being prepared to clean you MAF on a regular basis.

Typically, youll have no idea your running lean until the check engine light comes on. P0171 is the code that will store in the computers memory, which is Lean Condition. The common causes for this is A) MAF is oil soaked. B) Injectors partially resticted. C) Vacuum Leak.

You engine ignites an "Air/Fuel" mixture to create power. Having to much Air is called Lean, and too much Fuel is called Rich.
Id probably have to guess at an cleaning interval. How about everytime you oil the filter? Dont use chemicals on the MAF. Clean with soap and water. Some have reported using electrical contact cleaner, but im not sure if that does any damage or not.

Try an online source for a TRD filter, I think they go for around $70 at most online stores. If I'm not mistaken, the TRD makes the most power "drop in", but really for me it was a choice of a Toyota part or an aftermarket...and if you plan on going SC, the TRD seems to be the best way to go. Looks cool too
