Hey i was wondering to those of you that have done a deck plate mod. or new intake system....i know that your engine needs a certain air/fuel mixture. Now when you do a deck plate mod. or what have you...you are increasing air flow, but are you also increasing fuel flow? Or running lean? Or wont a deck plate effect your mixture much?? Cheers

 

The deck plate mod should not affect the mixture at all. The engine control system will keep in where it needs to be unless you are supercharged. Then you are out running the fuel systems ability to keep up.

In an engine you idealistically want complete combustion and this happens (or gets close as it never truly happens) when you have enough oxygen to burn all of the fuel up. In order to have enough oxygen you must have enough air, as the N2 remains inert and only absorbs heat, yeah it does form some reactants in small amounts, such as knocks and junk, but you need more than enough air to ensure that combustion minimizes the amount of fuel not combusted. Excess air does little to detriment your A/F mixture but does much to making your engine burn closer to complete combustion which increases the efficiency of your engine, thus better performance. Do the deckplate and have peace of mind!

 

Oh i did the deckplate mod. I can tell a difference in performance and sound. I like it. I was just curious about the a/f mix. Thanks guys.

 

How did you do the deckplate mod on a 3.0L?

 

I think the 2nd gens had a different setup and the decklate mod isn't an option.

 

x-awdriver, your right. There isnt any flat surface, for a deckplate its just rounded, So you just have to remove some excess plastic leading to your air box from your headlight. That will put about a 4in. hole in your air box. That and in addition to drilling some holes in the bottom of the air box..its pretty much the same thing...just you cant seal it off like a deckplate.
