Hey everyone,
2002 4runner v6 3.4 seems to drive fine around town, until you accelerate onto the highway. At about 40-50 mph, car starts to shake and shudder. However, if you continue to push the gas pedal through the shaking, it will work right through the problem. Check engine lt. finally came on a couple of weeks ago, and I took it to the mechanic, but he told me the code read: random misfire, I guess from me flooring it. He told me it could possibly be dirty injectors, so I've put the cleaner in a couple of times; I even put in a full bottle at a 1/4 tank and ran it until almost empty, but still have the same problem. I had close to the same problem about 6 mnths ago, and the check engine lt came on, and the mechanic told me I had to replace one of the coil packs. Replaced and ran fine until now. Starting to get nervous after reading some threads on different boards about people describing the same problem, and mechanics fixing the problem, only to have the same symptoms pop up a couple of mnths later.

I'm having a simaler problem with my '92 w/ 3.slow manual. In 3rd and 4th at about 2700RPM it shakes and shudders, but stops if I either ease off the gas, or push through to around 3000. But my engine light isn't on.

Make sure that you're firing on all cylinders and pull the plugs to check for buildup of deposits.
