AC compressor kicks in and....

...the engine speed jumps up about 400-500 rpm's. Quite a noticeable thing as you can tell the Runner wants to jump forward when sitting at a light. Any idea what to look for? '97 Ltd 3.4 V6 with 73,000 miles. It only does this when the ac compressor is engaged.

Anyone with similar experience and what did you do about it?

Thanks for any assistance!

The idle speed is supposed to increase when the AC is on, to compensate for the extra load on the engine, probably not by that much though. You have to find the Ac idle up control and see if it can be adjusted.
I have a 2nd gen so I don't know where it would be on yours.

Yes, it seems a little high to me as well. Hopefully someone will know about the 3rd gen and point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Aw come on. Someone has got to have a idea. I'm wondering if it is some sort of a sensor going bad. It did not used to do this. Any ideas?
Thanks.
