? about the front right axle

I noticed when i hit pot holes and bumps a clanging noise was coming from the right frontend . I looked under and noticed the axle wasn't snug and would move up and down freeley. The axle has the ring cliped on it keeping it from coming out. My question is what holds the axle in place and keeps it from moving up and down so easy. The left side is snug and doesn't move.

Thank you

Its a brand new axle that was installed just before i bought the 4runner a month ago. I wondering if the barron helps hold it straight in the hub with little movement.
