i went to change the plugs this morning on my 99 v6 4runner and i ran into a problem. the passenger side was fine when i removed the airbox and intake silencer right before the TB. the driver side was a pain because there is a wire screwed onto the intake just above the plug closest to the front. this wire connects to the same wire running to the ODB plug. can i unscrew this wire from the intake manifold? i want to change these plugs myself and save about $80, which is the cheapest i have found for someone to change them.

 

Yes, you can disconnect this wire. In fact, you can remove everything that's in the way as long as you install them back correctly. I normally disconnect the battery everytime I do something electrical to prevent any oops that might happen. Don't forget to put antisieze on the new plugs to make removal a lot easier next time. You can also use a piece of fuel line hose in putting the new plugs in. Have fun.

do one at a time if you're not the detail-oriented type. also, pull the plug boots up at the base, not any higher.

check the spark plug eletrode gaps. make sure they are even.

and last but not least SEARCH the term "spark plug". theres a few good threads about how to, what to avoid, what to look for, etc.
