99 runner fold down rear seat question

I enjoy removing the lower seat pads for more storage on long trips so how hard is it to convert the folding seat section to make it removable?
Cut the rear carpet under the protective pad but are the 2 sections connected at the center hinge point?
Can the left and right side come out separately?
Thanks for your help, Kenny S>

I dunno how you're removing the lower rear seat pads currently, but if you do it often, you ought to invest in a set of these . Has made the the process of removing them much more convenient:

Have not needed to remove the rear seat backs, so I can't help you there.

For those looking for a cheaper alternative, check out Bob's wing bolts: http://4runners.org/writeups/seatbolts/index.html

Just remember, in most of pictures on both Steve's & Bob's site, the wing bolts are shown mounted with the trim covers on too.

Bob's pic:

However, you will actually have to add a bolt to hold down the trim covers as seen in this pic from Steve's site. Reason being, the bottom tab of the cover no longer exists after the hole is drilled for the wing bolt. (Personally, I just left the covers off, but some may want to retain these trim covers):
