98 to 99 Cup holder mod back on track (large pics)
Guys,
I FINALLY got the correct 99 center console in. This mod looks like its not going to be as difficult as I thought.
Aside from the steeper angle of the 99 center console, the most obvious difference between the two is the offset of the moulding to accomodate the offset ebrake:
Here is an earlier pic that Butnut provided for me. See?
To whet your appetites a little further, here's a few more pics of the 98 and 99 center consoles.
1998 sideview
1999 sideview
Differences in the shape of the bottom moulding (98 vs 99)
Differences in height (98 vs 99)
This weekend I will most likely finish this mod by doing some dremel work and some creative metal work. Man, I wish I had a welder!
I'll keep you all posted.

Cool deal man, I have been wanting to do a mod like this for a long time, that has been my major complaint about my 96'. Definatley let us know how things go and get a write up in if you could.
Way to go, good luck.

Nice mod. I have to say that this is one of the reasons I didn't want an earlier ('96-'98) Runner. I didn't like the idea of having the air vent blocked by a cup (need all the A/C you can get here in AZ)and the possibility of a drink being spilled. By the way....not to rub it in too much....but....Im still using my A/C during some parts of the day

Travis,
I only ordered the center console shell as you see in the pics above. As you might recall, I bought a used center console (all of the parts) from a Canadian guy. Turns out it was for the Limited w/ the rear heater controls. Thus, I just needed the shell.
I'm not sure it is going to be a problem compensating for the angle. I believe its only about a 1/8" to a 1/4" off. A few more turns of the screw will do it.
Pfdaxe: Haha, yes A/C in mid-December is a nice thing. Glad I left Boston to return to the LA shineshine!
