It was really the relentless hills that killed that tow. Rather than ruining my truck I just succomed to fate and paid up. A new engine would have been about the same and I would have had to move myself (not a good deal in my book!) I also didn't have any mods at all on it so the deckplate and ISR mods might have helped a bit. The real problem is it really lacks the low end torque you need for a good towing machine. My springs also really took a beating on the 80 or so miles I did drive with it that way. Now I am lookiing to get some OMEs to fix that problem too. Some lower rear gears might have helped as well but you will pay for it in gas mileage too later. Overall I am still very happy with mine despite all its weaknesses.

Cool

Hey welcome to the forum.
I'm new too; bought my '98 in May of '01 and have been tinkering ever since.
Stop by Gadget's site if you haven't already and prepare to empty your wallet.
Have fun!

Cheers Loosehead and the rest of you fellas and fellitas. You know the 98's are the greatest. What exhaust and isr mod did you 98's do?

I'm stuck on a half arss isr mod where i pvc capped all but the one with the vacuum line. i don't know if i should cap the vacuum line or pvc cap with a vacuum fitting on it? Is it really necessary to reset the efi fuse. Please elaborate.

Maybe i'll leave it that way and just post this as the "HALF ARSS ISR MOD."

I love this website. It's truly addicting. I was gone all weekend fishing o.k. my people so forgive me.

Check out my fishing post at www.floridasportsman.com, click on fishing forums, click West Central Florida, then look for the post Rockin'em offshore on the SS-CUBERA-GO EXTREME. Cubera is my 32foot offshore diesel powered reef diggin' ride. Peace.

OFFSHORE fishing is my other addiction beside 984runners.

Cubera,

If fishing were scored like golf, I WIN!

Me and the misses went fishing last weekend and caught the lovely little catfish above.

Well, we all do it for the experience, right?

Eh 98's are ok, but 97's is where its at!!

Just gotta fine tune the 98's and 97's by adding 99+ lights and the 99+ cupholder mod that bob was talking about. Then you have the best of both worlds.

My console is waiting to be installed and my lights are going to be ordered shortly!

What is the deal with the 99+ lights? Do they have better light output, look better or what?

Do they just bolt up or is there much modification required?

Thanks in advance

CUBERA,

Yeah, i looked through your pics last night. Must've had a great time catching those fellas.

My in-laws may be retiring to FL soon so it'll give me a chance to see what FL fishing is all about!

Congrat's brother on your new ride. You'll love it.

There's a thread on the check light.

I hear you have to disconnect negative lead to battery for 10 minutes and that will reset the light.

Don't forget everybody 98' 4runners rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here's my '98 - Read the specs in my sig because I've added stuff since that pic. Click the pic for a bigger one. I bought mine new back in January of '98 with only about 2 miles on it.

That boat wasn't a charter. Last spring break I got to go stay with a with some friends down in the Abacos. My friend's parents just spent their life savings on a 56ft sport fisherman. I can't remember the builder but, its a smaller company up in Maine. They had had the boat for about a month when we were on it. They live on a small isle called man-o-war. I believe its about 100 miles from Nassau, but I could be mistaken. If you want more info on the boat I can get it for you, it was amazing to say the least.

More Pics

PS, pardon me on the wrong color...

Turboale, that trip looked like a blast. Nice pics.

Nice place out there. I love that clear water, sugar sand action.

That's a serious boat post some pics of that beast.

I gotta 32 intrepid single diesel and love it.

Hello. I also just purchased a '98 limited this week with 74,000 and it's definately been a pleasure to drive. I also am curious about the '99 headlight upgrade. What makes them better?
Thanks, Dave.

I just threw in a pair of silverstars and said forget the 99 upgrade. later I'll upgrade to the heavy duty harness, once I can justify the 50 bucks cost.

I'm with keisur,
The 99+ headlights are a bit clearer but I don't want to spend that kind of cash. I guess I'll wait til I can get some off a fellow Yotatecher or something. I really do need new lenses though. One is messed up from having the mud in it and is blinding people. It also doesn't help that my lights are at eye level with most rear view mirrors. Oh well... what am I going to do aim them straght down?
