98 4Runner Hesitation Question

Trying to rule out problems with my '98 4Runner 3.4...

Here are the symptoms: Major hesitation on acceleration after initial start-up. If I rev the engine in neutral and put it in drive while I'm driving, it seems to help--i'm able to drive long distances, stop&go traffic, etc, afterwards.

Recently broke down in the woods after a branch smacked underneath, but got it up and running (unknown) the next day. Couldn't find anything wrong at the shop--02 sensor malfunction, but I have no catalytic converter (somebody stole it) and just have a straight-pipe to the muffler.

Replaced the fuel filter. Air filter looks fine, all fluids are good.

What are the symptoms of a bad 02 sensor? I'm also wondering if I knocked something loose in my fuel tank and my pump is acting up?

Any help would be great,

thanks

Both 02 sensors were gone. New exhaust (needed it) and 02 sensors installed. She runs like a champ!

I had a hesitation as well. Cleaned the throttle body and good ever since! May want to check it out!
