I have a 97 4runner 5speed and the clutch seems to get stuck in when I push it to the floor, it does not happend all the time but most of the time it seems to be real slow to return in its upright position, also this problem only occurs when the car is running and I am shifting gears, I check my fluids and all of my fluids are full, the carpet is not hitting the clutch and a mechanic said it could not be the slave in the transmisson cause there would be different symptoms, any help or suggestions would be appreciated,

I had to replace the slave cylinder, and that did the trick. Having said that I am having the same problem again and need to double check the work.

remove the torsion spring on the pedal, the bushings for the spring are likely long gone and the spring has started to cut into the bracket causing it to stick
