Question 96 4Runner door speakers

Hi, I have 4" rear door speakers in my SR5. I was about to pull the trigger on a new set, but noticed my factory ones are three tab (installation tabs) and the new ones are four tab.
Has anyone overcome the tab install issue? I figure I can make an adapter out of ABS, but what a pain in the butt.

I just bought some adapters on eBay and replaced my stock speakers with 5 1/4" aftermarket speakers. The adapters were cheap, I think under $15 for a pair.

Thanks for the reply! You have me a good idea. This afternoon, I went down to a stereo shop and they talked about making a "template" in place of the factory plastic unit. They'd do this for $45, to which I said nay nay. Came home, used the scroll saw to cut out a trace of the plastic unit (using plywood), planed it to 5/16, painted it for sealer and after all that, I was able to install the 5 1/4 Pioneers. Turned out very clean and they sound great!
Thanks again.
