Exclamation 95-00 tacoma rust recall

My dad has a 96 tacoma 4X4 ex cab. The truck has 96000 miles on it, he was checking out the frame and found a hole from rust. He took it to the dealer becouse he had heard of this recall Toyota has. The Dealer said it was not safe to drive, gave him a rental and $10K for a new truck....this is no S***. I looked it on yahoo and found some talk about it. They give you 1.5 the value of your truck.

5000 value
2500 half
7500

Just thought if anybody had a rotten frame its worth a shot.

I am just glad he made out ok. I sold him the truck last year when I bought my Tundra. I didnt think the frame was that bad, but one year in Vermont salt will do it.

Now I am thinking og selling the Tundra and buying a 05 or newer Tacoma v-6, I am sick of getting 15mpg. Do you guys think the v-6 Tacoma would tow a 20' Lund Alaskan ok??

i pull a 21ft bass boat ( non metal hull) single axle trailor with ease in my taco.. just remember to take it out of OD when hauling. i dont see an issue with it BUT you need to dbl check toungue weight and the total weight of the boat and compare...

Is that 10K toward a brand new truck ? Or can he pick out a used truck on the lot. Can he use it toward a car ? I also have a 96. frame was bad, boxed mine in. should've left it alone. I'll still see what the dealer says sometime.
