$860 repair job
Some of you propably know I just shelled out $860 for fome serious repair work. That was my body lift and rim money . Well the good news is it runs cherry now (check out the recent thread, Engine DEAD!) Well that got me thinking, what is the most you guys ever paid for repair work, not after a crash but a breakdown of sorts. Also what do you see the value of your rig as. Be fair, not the market resale value (count all mods), what it would cost to do it all again if it just blew up.

Not sure how much it would ahve cost to put a new engine in my old car. I'd estimate at least 2G's. I did it myself with dealer parts costing $900 (20% discount) and that doesn't count any of the upgrades I did while I was in there to get the little feller to handle more boost.

$1000 bucks for AC, I don't know how much you make but I would have spent 3 second rolling the window down on my budget! Thats crazy, was the work done at a dealer?

Blown engine
I know Toyota spend $8K replacing a sludging engine in my Sienna and paid for the rental car to boot. I've never spent anything on a Toyota other than routine maintenance because I've always carried a warranty.

I try to do as much as possible. When my truck broke down, I replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and wires on my own. Unfourtunetly I don't have the time or money to become a full fledged mechanic. Besided, if the work fails I like to lay the blame on somebody else .

Mine was $996 for a timing belt, water pump, idler pulley, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pcv, coolant, and i think that was it. i could tack on another $265 cuz not more than a year prior another tech did my waterpump under the table with no tax and a break. so when it went out i couldnt go cry to him. so $1261
If the right buyer came along I would want around $6-8000.
I got it for $11,400, yeah i paid to much. I had it lifted with tires, that was $1700. body lifted @ $230. windows tinted @ $280. upgraded 33s to 35s, difference about $300. other toys somewhere around $400. So like overall like $14,310 but its only worth like $4,000 now so that ends up at its value being IMO @ $6,900. I know I will never get $8,000 for it but I know I have brought it along way in 2.5 years. It would be hard to get rid of it anyway. I love it!

"So, new plugs, fuel filter, timing belt, wires, cap, rotor, ignition coil and ignition module. THE ULTIMATE TUNE UP"
thats major engine work? ha ha hope you got your $850 worth, i bought a complete (all accessories and wiring) 3.4 for about $150 more that had 5,100 miles on it when i actually had serious engine problems with my tacoma, swapped it in myself for the ultimate tune up. not bad for a guy who drives a civic

now now...
Having never driven my 4Runner when it was new (I was 8) the way the enging puts out noe compared to before is night and day. I am by no means a mechanic and with so many people complaining about the 3.0 I figgured it was normal plut I HAVE 192 THOUSAND miles on it! I am happy now though. I would not know what to do to swap an engine other than open the hood. I am very happy though. If my 4Runner ever tries to commit suicide again I will be sure to have it towed to your house so you can put in a 3.4 for me. My brother is the Honda fiend, he in 6' 6'' and looks pretty dumb in that go kart with a roof.

I spent around 600 bucks for a new axle and all brake parts, bearings, seals, etc and a cheap arbor press from Harbor to assemble it all, not bad when the dealer quoted me over 1200 to do it, plus I ended up with some useful shop tools.
I think mines priceless.

You can't sell a truck in AZ without AC.....no buyers.
I never let a shop work on my truck....too many headaches that way. Saves me money and time believe it or not because I don't have to go down to the dealer to argue about being over charged or the work not done correctly. Largest bill I had so far was for new tires (@ $515 installed) and that is the only thing won't do.....besides maybe the head gasket (and I still have yet to do the recall so toyota owes me there!). No major problems ever....knock on wood!

I've always done my own car work, either because I was too poor to have someone else do it, or now, when I have money, because I enjoy doing it. I have been tempted to get a dealer to do the timing belt/water pump, but it sounds like it might be a good challenge for me.

Yes It Is!
I love Airwolf too. I spent about a billion bucks buying episodes on ebay. I have a helicopter student pilots liscense and plan to enroll in the Army WFO program post graduation. Naturaly, Airwolf is very cool to me.

I use to have a toy airwolf as a kid, wish I had kept all of those cool toys I had. Didnt the series end because the pilot aka main character die in real life? Then the old guy his co-pilot/side kick, didnt he die a year or so ago?

No...
The pilot "Hawke" is Jan Michel Vincint, he didn't die, he is just in a perpetual hangover. His old fat friend "Dom" is in real life Ernist Borgnine, I belive you are thinking of Jack Lemon, they look alot alike. The series died because the network started greenlighting lame scripts (a helicopter cannot solve family probs!) and after a few seasons moved to a cable network with a new cast. That killed it forever. Wow, I'm a huge dork .
