i want to put an alternator out of an 86 in my truck but the plugs on the alternators are different.COuld i just splice the other ones wires and go with it?mine has a 22re and the 86 was carbureted.

 

I used an alternator out of a 95 in my 87 just by removing the back cover from both and switching the regulator.(the part with the plug on it.) 2 minute job not including pulling it from the truck.

i didnt think of that.my truck has an external regualtor.I didnt remember an external one on the 86.ill look a little more at it.Thanx alot

 

the regulator is the part "IN" the alternator with the plug. that is the only difference on the alternators. yes you have an internal regulated alternator.
