What is your first name if I end up in there?

I would be interested in a turbo kit for my 96 4Runner, but I am looking for the increase in the fuel economy that you can supposedly get with a minimal boost turbo. I don't know if that is true or not. But I do know that I would rather deal with a turbo than a S/C. Just my two cents.

turbo 3.4
Hello im new to the board and was just surfing around and found this topic interesting. I turboed a 3.0 a while back and it hauled but than i went and turboed a 3.4 and it also ran very strong with no fuel mods and on pump gas. It does work and im planning another turbo kit for my t100 3.4. Ill keep you guys updated on my progress, im going to start the install after the first of the year. thanks Brian

Ive been turboing stuff for a long time but one of those was a 1990 2x 3.0 truck. I had to make very stealth so's the wife would not know, well is worked and she says one day some things different, and i said i tweaked a couple of things, anyway i ran a hi brid t3-t4 with intercooler exhaust gears limited slip and turbo supra trans. I have one pic left after the divorce and alot of great memories. I would go street racing back in the day and upset alot of v8 guys. I ran hks aic 6 injector control with good gas i would run around 15 lbs boost. Later i bought a 84 4x4 and put a 3.4 and turboed it but i did not use extra fuel injectors, I did run boost at around 7lbs on pump gas and it was a blast.

we (3.0) guys really really need something like a turbo kit. the 3VZ-E is so underpowered that you would sell tons and tons of turbos. would you guys be willing to explore the option of making a kit for the 3VZ-E???

Hey I just got a Performance Products catalog yesterday and there is a STS (Squires Turbo System) turbo kit available. It's a remote unit, has anyone heard about this? It out perfoms the TRD supercharger. Per the website you need to run premium fuel at 5 psi and over, their kit for the Tacoma is at 4 psi so maybe the cheap fuel will work.

I think the cheap as you could do it would be the same price of the TRD supercharger...
You would need a turbo, depending on size 500-800. Then you would need all the exhaust modifications, 300-500.
I think this would be a SOB to install unless they perfected the kit.
I imagine you would wont a fairly small turbo on these trucks so you can get it to spool up at low RPM. I would also think you would need to push more boost since you are adding the restriction of a turbo into the exhaust.
Unless its pushing the same or less power then the supercharger then its gonna need fuel upgrades. Thats pretty much unavoidible in any case. Even upgrading turbo vehicles you usually need to upgrade the fuel system.
High octane is a given, your gonna have to run 91-93 no matter what.

Dredging old threads!
TTT
Saw this brought to the top last Sept and it didn't go far then either......
Christian, did you ever go and visit the shop?
To bad I can't find anybody with a pass side exhaust flange to start my manifold. It's taking me longer to get one drawn up and cut for me. I see this shop is still around but nothing from him or the web site.

LOL again........
Turbo=power above 3000 RPM, turbo lag, heat....really tough problem that will in the end be costly and suffer from reliability issues....Momie...why is the hood of my truck burned? Why is there a hole in number 6 piston?
Supercharger=power from idle, simpler application, more reliable and much more affordable. Simply draw a intake plenum on Pro/E or similar 3D CAD, get it right and search for an off the shelf blower. Cobble up the small stuff and you are in business.
My $0.02

Have you looked on customtacos.com? I think there is a thread there with a link to the company selling the kits.
