5vze changes?

My dad and I were working on our trucks the other day and we both noticed some stuff. He has a 1999 v6 4runner and I have a 2000 v6 taco.

His truck has a distributor...I have coil packs.

I have two cats while he has one.

Does anybody know when these changes happend? More importantly...why the heck does my truck have two cats if its not a cali model?

There is no way he has a distributor. They never put them on 5VZ-Fe's.

yea, better double check that distributor.....All 5VZ engines ran coil packs.

Dual cats usually indicates California emissions, singe cat is usually Federal. However, since yours is NOT cali, I can only assume that the change was made in 2000. My 1999 4Runner also had only one cat.
