4Runners with Roof Racks - Help with a Height Question

I'd like to install a roof rack into the factory rails and avoid using the Yakima or Thule cross bars. I read somewhere the racks in the factory rails sit lower.

Those with Wilderness, Surco, etc roof racks, I need your help. What is the distance between the roof of your 4Runner and the top of the rack?

My 4Runner is kept in the garage and I'm limited to how high I can go with the roof rack. Thanks.

the top of my wilderness 4" tall roof rack is 6" above the top of the factory rail.

Yep, the 4" Wilderness ones are the lowest profile you can go. Very garage and tree limb friendly. Well, if you're going to have a rack, that is.

Thanks for the help. I'll measure the space tonight, but I think it'll fit.

not to steal the thread or anything, but my 4runner didn't come with a roof rack, what would be the easiest way to put on up there? Like there are spots along the sides for mounts, but I don't have the rails or anything.

TIA
