4Runner w/ Moto tote??? (3rd Gen)

Anyone ever seen how a 3rd Gen 4Runner will work w/ a Moto Tote hauling a full on sportbike? I'd like to haul my Ducati on the back of my 4Runner but it seems that a 4Runner will sag so much because the rears just don't seem that solid. They guy at the bike rack shop said it might need some air suspension or something. I don't want to go through all that. I know the T4R can probably haul a dirt bike back there but what about a 400 lbs sportbike? On their website moto tote shows an Xterra w/ a ZX6R back there, surely the 4Runner can hold up better than an Xterra right? Here's an example of a sportbike on the back of a Jeep Cherokee...

I asked a while back this same question ...
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...ocycle+carrier
Actually ended up with a Moto-tote and its a solid product..

As for saggy yes it does drop maybe 1" (nose points up slightly) and thats with the 3" lift spring in rear ended up installing AitLift bags a few weeks back to level it all out, but have not had a chance to test to se how it looks yet.

If interested let me know I'll try and get pics up after I test it out again just got to wait for the weather to break.

Do you think it's feasible with the stock suspension set up? My 4Runnner is as stock as they come. I just want to be certain it's not going to slam the rear down or point the nose so skyward that it's not functional.

I know this doesn't really help you much but I got 8 kegs in the back of my runner... I have hd lift coils and hd shocks and I wasn't on the bump stops but it was definately saggin. If you do run into problems all you have to do is get some HD rear springs and you should be in the clear. I think performance products sells spring specificly for that purpose and they are progressive so you should get a nicer ride out of them at the same time

I have a side pic somewhere but, I can't find it on my server...

Thanks for the info! Could you post a link to the springs you recommend? I don't plan on doing a suspension mods like lifting it any time soon but would like to have it support the moto tote w/o sacrificing drivability.

Actually I guess if I could lift it about 1.50 inches w/ HD springs I would be happy. I'll have to do some reading on what I need to do that. But I'd still like to see who sells some HD springs just to upgrade the stock ones.

I would think stock would work but the springs will more than likely sag a bit since there stock springs not upgraded nes and you are putting almost 500lbs of tounge weight right on the rear end to the front will stand up, but I don't think it would be un-drivable.
Also what year 3rd gen ? some have the rubber cone stopper inside that will help stop it from dropping more.
I would suggest just getting AirLift bags installed, I got mine over the internet for $75.00 or so shipped to my door. Install was easy and thats with my longer springs. I also set mine up for seperate lift control just so I can adjust the amount of air(lbs) into each airbag. I did not go with a onboard compressor and all that cause I don't plan on having that much weight on it all the time. They do recomend keping 5lbs of air in it which to me didn't change the ride any. Also if you need more rear lift it will add a good 1" at the full 35lbs max but will be a bit stiffer
