4runner JBA cat-back

OK well i have looked around and i found two cat-back system for the 2.7L 4runner, gibson and JBA. After hearing the stories about the gibson leaking, i decided i would rather have a JBA. But there is one big problem, I have no clue what it sounds like. I dont want to buy an exhaust and find out that it sounds like crap when I start it. So I am asking for help to find a sound clip of the JBA cat-back exhaust ANYWHERE for a 2.7L. BTW, http://www.pnw4runners.com/exhaust/exhaust.htm doesn't have it, so dont start sending that website to me.

I'm curious, why not just have a muffler shop make a catback for you? I'm sure it'd be cheaper, and you could tell them the type of sound you want, and I am sure they know the right muffler/bends in the pipe for the job. Plus it would be cheaper.

What kind of sound are you looking to achieve? My plan was to have a muffler shop do 2.25" piping with an OEM type muffler on the end, that way there is more breathability, but it doesn't sound like the fart-can-mufflered hondas that roam around... I was also going to do some more investigating as far is if a free flow cat could be put on with that type of setup as most report not enough back pressure with 2.25 and a free flow cat, but if I have a more restricting muffler providing backpressure, maybe you can achieve performance without sound annoyance.

Well of course like all truck i want the deep sound but im affraid when i put on a muffler its going to sound like a crappy rice rocket, thats why i want to hear a sound bit before doing anything. BTW i dont care about how loud it is. Its a truck, not a luxoury car.

I don't know exactly what the JBA exhaust sounds like on the 2.7, but I had a JBA stainless steel exhaust on my 3.4 and it had a deep, rich, V8 sound. The JBA system was very well made, including heavy gauge T304 stainless steel tubing, mandrel bends, and even a chromed, stainless steel round tip.

JBA bought the designs (and remaining systems) for most of their exhaust systems from K&N after K&N decided to stop selling exhausts. I actually got one that was a K&N system wrapped in a K&N box. I was impressed with the design, fitment, and quality. Even the instructions were good with step by step pictures.

Just so you know, if JBA is still using the K&N designs, then these systems are using Magnaflow mufflers. My system had the 9"x24" stainless steel muffler that was very nicely polished.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this system.

Good luck with your decision.

I bought mine through the Truck Performance Center. I contacted JBA directly, and that's who they recommended. I think I paid $359 for mine because with shipping the total came to $395. They were definitely the cheapest I could find.

Good luck.
