Heavy indeed! Now is that a tank full(Per the gauge 14 gal give or take) or a tank full (18 gal)

That's like 10MPG Are you racing with it??? Even if I drive very hard I dont get that low, I'll probably end in jail for speeding before getting to 10MPG. Check you handbrake or something!!!

Geez.. Maybe something is wrong. I don't race or anything, but I do climb hills at 75 mph, and I'm quick off the lights. 2500' Elevation.

Most of my driving is highway driving but most people in my town don't go over 55 (I run at about 65-70), so it is like city driving. When I drive on I-80, I can get closer to 300 miles.

Maybe it is just the area and your driving style, constant hard accelaration between 50-70 will kill gas mileage.

Wow, the absolute worst I've ever gotten with my 3.4 was 14.5mpg, (about 270 to the tank), and that was when I think I spent like half the week in bumper to bumper, stop-start, up-hill action (laurel canyon blvd).
Is my pickup that much lighter? I do have a cap, and usually a bunch of crap in the bed.

Thanks.
Wouldnt an auxilliary gas tank with all that extra weight make you mpg go lower?

I'll drive like a grandma next tank. If I don't go to the desert.
I thought the 3.4L engine had self-adjusting valves. Do I need to get them adjusted??? I have not adjusted them in the 45,000 miles I have owned Sherpa. Hmmm.....

hmmm...i get 180 at the most completely highway driving.....mixed driving gives me about 120-140...that comes out to be about 7.5mpg on average....i think there is somthing wrong with it maybe..haha...the engine runs really rich and idles at about 300rpm sitting in park...maybe its time to have it checked out....the mpg has been going down for the past two years....when i first got it i could do 250 highway easily.....

that has to be wrong.... lighter tractor trailers can get 10 mpg with an empty 40 foot container, 8~9 mpg with a full load of broccoli.... try putting some fuel injection cleaner in... might help a bit!

Ive tried fuel injector cleaner many times, whole fuel system cleaner, and autoRX. THe autoRX really helped with the engine vibration and stopped it from burning oil when the engine hadn't had a chance to warm up. The fact that it still idles really low at 300rpm (sometimes sooo low that tach doesnt even register, but the engine has never died) and shakes really bad when idling.....i also know it runs REALLY rich too....would a bad O2 sensor or/and a clogged fuel filter be doing this and making it idle really low or do i have a more major problem??...thanks

it only burned a little bit of oil if i only took about three seconds in the morning to start it, throw it in drive and have it floored... :pat: believe me....i know that isnt good for it at all....just cant seem to get up early enough to go start it and let it warm up....i think the valve cover gaskets may be leaking also....oh yeah..ive also changed the pcv valve too......i just think i need to be shot for not taking care of it....

Hey Sherpa, that is a really good question. I wish I knew the answer, but I don't. Does anyone here know the answer?

I can squeeze about 15 gallons into my tank once the fuel light comes on and I've been getting about 270 a tank around town,if I do some mountain driving that drops a bit. My mom who drives pretty conservatively gets about 280 a tank out of her '99 Limited.
