3RZ Mystery Pipe

Can anyone tell me what this mystery pipe is? Doing a 3RZ swap into my 84 with a guess it would be 3rd generation 3RZ. Not sure what this pipe goes to or if it is even necessary to keep, thinking it's not.

Thanks for any input!

Mystery pipe indeed - my '98 RZN185 M/T does not have it, if that helps. Could it be something to do with California emission spec engine? Perhaps some sort of EGR/PCV routing?

On my '99 3RZ, I have a pipe that goes from the evap canister (driver-side fender) to the air intake (pass-side fender), so that might be it.
However, on mine, it is attached to the top of the radiator. What year is your 3RZ?

Not sure, it's a JDM engine, 3rd Gen 3RZ. Went to the local Dealership and one of the Techs said he'd help me out on Tuesday, were too busy at the time to go over where all these pipes hook up. Have the "mystery pipe" as well as the two heater lines coming off the driver side of the engine and the water line that "T's" off one of the heater lines and wraps around the back of the engine to the passenger side. Sooo, if anyone has pics or can let me know where those things go I'd appreciate it. Obviously the heater lines go to the in cab heater pipes, just need to know which one goes where.

Have the top and bottom heater lines here just behind the dipstick, still have the cut hoses on them.

Numbers 1 and 2 on this picture. And the other pipe branches off of #2 near the rear of the engine, wraps around the back of the engine and is on the passenger side, need to know where that hooks up to.

Bump

Anyone? Surely someone can go pop the hood on their rig and take a look for me? Here is a pic of the passenger side pipe that wraps around the back of the engine, branches off one of the pipes that I assume supply the heater.

Well you figured it out but did not know

JDM most likely not on the North American Market engines.

Maybe if it is only it is run in a different way

Just a thought

Surely by now some one would have said

Well it would be nice if someone could take a look and maybe say something like "Hey, looked at mine and I don't have that pipe that branches off and wraps around the engine, all I have are the two pipes that feed the heater" FSM is a piece o' crap, could get better drawings from a kindergarten class and the dealership is useless, need to hang a hundy from my shirt pocket or something to get any info out of them. Yes, my fault for going with a JDM engine but after looking for a few weeks figured what the hell, can't be that different and at the worst I strip down the block, hit the junkyards and find the parts I need. Really it's not that different, wiring harness pinned out to match a 2003 Tacoma harness pin for pin, just different color wires, Alternator the same, AC pump same, P/S pump the same, Starter the same. My biggest problem at the moment is that frickin plumbing for the coolant. It's a stupid easy thing to fix if I only had an example of what one looks like originally. Almost ready to go prowl the neighborhood looking for Tacomas in the middle of the night just so I can pop the hood and take a look. Going to the stealership again after work, maybe I'll hang a Benjamin out my zipper to get some service...

Thanks Wyoming, you're a peach. Just frustrated that something so simple can turn so difficult without the right information.

Anyways. Went to the dealership, talked with the mechanics and once again, no use, they had no clue what the pipe went to. Although one of the sales people did have a 99 Tacoma with a 3RZ that he let me look at. Doesn't have the pipe that wraps around the rear of the engine and the heater hoses hook up in completely different spots. So, my best guess is that this pipe setup is specific to whatever vehicle this engine came out of in Japan. My plan is to find a water heater pipe setup from a USD Tacoma. If anyone has one they want to sell, send me a PM, otherwise will be cruising the 1 local wrecking yard that I know has Toyotas, problem is they don't part out engines, but may get lucky. And of course car-part.com. On a positive note, received the MAF housing with a MAF sensor today for $40 so I can finish the air box install/routing and relocated the battery to the drivers side. Moving along....sloooooooowly.
