Ok heres the scenario. I welded up my V6 third quite some time ago and I want to change back. Its just too hard on tires. So my question is will a 4cyl housing bolt into a V6 housing? If so are the splines the same? and can I swap my V6 gears onto the 4cyl 3rd? I have a spare 4cyl 3rd from an 82 Toyota for my straight axle so instead of spending money on a new 3rd I was hoping to just swap the other one in. Thanks

 

You can interchange the v6 3rd for the 4cyl third but it won't be as strong. Also if your 4cyl 3rd is an 82, the drive shaft flange is a different bolt pattern than the v6 3rd (smaller). You can't put v6 gears into a 4cyl housing, but you can put 4 cyl gears into a v6 with a ring gear spacer Hope this makes sence.Your best bet is to find a different carrier(the part you welded)I have one I can sell you .
