3rd member backlash setting

3rd member backlash setting
anyone know how to determine if you need to have the backlash adjusted?
i have a feeling this is what is causing the lurching motion when i hit the accelerator.
can the dealership adjust it? ...or would i be better off taking it to someone who specializes in gearing and the like?
any suggestions around the atlanta area?
