As luck would have it, I backed into a co-worker today at work. His black full size Chevy truck was parked in the shade with the tailgate down. I was backing up and...smack. I thought I had run over something, but his tailgate was down or I wouldn't have hit him. No damage to his truck at all...I thought I had plenty of room...guess not

What do you think I am looking at in repairs? From the pics, do you guys think I could have it repaired or is it a loss. If I have to get a new one, I would really like to find a green 3rd Gen that has front end damage and possibly swap out lift gates. I may be asking for a lot I know. I priced the part at 1st Toyota, $500 + shipping grrrrrrrrrrr!!! Then probably a few hundred more to have it painted etc. Dang I have had some bad luck lately!!! Time for a Guiness

sorry, you need a new tailgate if you want it to look original. I MIGHT be able to be worked, but it will always look off.
Sorry about the accident. Damn tailgates. At least you won't make that mistake again

1450 is what it the insurance company paid the dealer to replace my wife's 99 SR5 tailgate. They had to replace the entire gate and re-align the existing hinges, new emblems. they reused the license plate surround and interior panels. It was a NEW gate though. Looks good. Still burns my bum that it's not original, but you really can't tell.

Not really, my GF called me an idiot when I dented my truck wheeling.

I told her to shut up and get in

OK not really, I smacked her and told her to get in.

Ok, I really didn't do anyhting to her

That one on eBay said something about not selling it unless he got at least $50 so maybe he still has it? But then again he obviously didn't set the reserve at $50 so who knows. It's at least worth trying to contact him. Bum luck man, hopefully you get it fixed for a reasonable price!
