i use the same method and it works just fine for me. it might take a little longer to extract out but several times and its just as clean IMHO.

 

Doubledown, I never heard of anybody requiring a PS cooler, but where you live could be. Did you get it complete?

I just got done doing this and man oh man, the difference is incredible. A few oil changes ago, my mechanically-inclined friend topped off my PS fluid with cheapo AdvanceAuto PS fluid. At the time, I didn't think anything of it and completely forgot about it requiring Dexron ATF.

Fast forward to the past month or so and my steering has been a little shaky, swaying some, and notchy. I fixed the notchyness by tightening the belt, but something still felt amiss. I spent a few hours on Sunday replacing all the rack bushings and sway-bar bushings.

Today I did this flush, almost exactly according the writeup. I never put the truck up on jack-stands, but it seems to have worked just as well. I ran over a quart of ATF through the system before bleeding, topping off, and bleeding again.

The result? Amazing. My poor steering system was choking with that PS fluid in it and I didn't even realize how bad it was. After this flush, the turning is silky smooth, better than it's been in years. This was so simple to do too!

I just performed the flush and it worked great, I made one small change to keep things clean. Instead of pulling the return hose down I used a hose coupler and joined the return hose to another piece of hose that ran into a empty milk jug under the rig.

 

I'm going to do the turkey baster method a few times. Should be good to go. Good to know that ATF is the correct fluid. Thx !!
