We had a nice ice pelleting here in KC so the roads were pretty much traction-free. My dumb-ass keeps in 2wd because I was having no problems....hit a left merge over a bridge and went right toward the concrete barrier I was on the phone(head piece -bluetooth) and told my gf I wrecked my truck...well I straigtened it out after 4-5 corrections...my ass swung harder than a 300 lb girl when a Usher song comes on. I have never seen any save like this, I was figuring fender and bumper prices in my head. Anyway the way I see it I saved about 2K today because my hands were free and I am a bad-ass driver.....or lucky?

Learned:
1. Use 4wd thats why it is there.
2. Keep hands on the wheel.

I have to admit I made my own mistakes once. I used to drive a 93 camry v6. I had ok tires on it (it was a handmedown car) and it was snowing a bit onthe way home from school.

Myself and 3 other kids were in the car with me, as I was rounding a bed the rearend began to slide. I corrected and it did nothing, I then corrected the other way and back and forth to no avail, the car was heading right for a nice field that was lower than the road. I then frantically corrected again and used the brakes and gas and managed to over correct and was now verring toward an embankment with trees, again I corrected and managed to slide heading back towards the field till I finally managed to pull out of the slide.

In reality it lasted maybe 10 seconds and thank god the road has a very wide curve there.. After I corrected it totally I drove slowly to the kids house and very slowly back home. Funny thing was I musta hit black ice b/c I just began to slide and was only going about 20mph around the wide turn.

Another time the light or something froze up and I sat at it for 10 solid minutes before I decided to just go. It was snowing heavily and even with better tires inthe same car I managed to slide the turn b/c I had to jump out quick as it was the only opening. I slide into the curb and somehow managed not to damage the alignment. I bought really good tires after that one..

Hasnt snowed here in 2 years so I cant test my truck out..

 

Definitely. If the roads are slick, I am in 4wd. One close call in 2wd was all it took. I narrowly avoided a 40 ft drop. I think I may have earned a few grey hairs from that one.

 

Different kind of question, did/do you play a lot of Racing games, particularly the need for speed games?

 

4x on ice gives you confidence which can translate into speed you shouldn't have. Just remember it doesn't stop any better.

The trees are all iced up here, our morning was full of the sound of rifle-shot cracking and subsequent falling of limbs. So far the power's only blinked out a few times...we did take apart and remove a large branch that got hung on the lines to the house. Our neighbor's lines are down. More of the same tonight, looks like.

 

It happened to me when got off from work 3:00am yesterday. On my way home i started traversing a 1.5 miles 30 deg. gradual climb. It was slick but didn't engage 4wd - got too much confident when my truck started going up with ease at 2wd but halfway through it, suddenly the rears went out of control, the brakes/steering of no use, the truck spun twice or i could not remember until i hit the opposite lane embankment and in a blink of an eye i found me and my 4r hangin on the edge of 40-50ft drop; front right wheel hanging in the air and left rear 2" off the ground. Few grey hairs? Yes i've noticed!...

 

Anybody who thinks this would not have corrected the slide I was in. But I know many drivers that need this important information. There were 2 flipped trucks both 4X4. I think KC is a place where all the bad drivers end up living.

Ice did stop the UPS from getting a roof rack to me ...damn it.

Sorry, used to the soccer moms around here...you know, throw it in 4 high and your as good as on dry.They get going fast enough they lose control or think they can stop like normal so tailgate like mad.

Yeah I feel your pain living in Raytown, geez we got the crap and fast. I had to go up to Jay Wolfe to get a huge service and slid over a quarter mile the woodson hill and stopped right before the 20ft drop, all going in circles!

Well in some places like cities who dont know how to start shoveling when the stuff falls, it is just a huge ice blanket but slowley melting.
