so 200 rpm for each 5mph increase, 265/70/16 tires.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for-stock readings.

If I estimate that with 4.88's I would run 3400 rpm at 80 (33" tires)-I think that 400 rpm's should still be ok w/o the rpm's being too high. What do you guys think?

Edit: I posted wrong this morning, these should be correct now.

Ok, I've done the math:

3rd gen 4Runner, V6, 4.88's, 5spd, and 33's should yield the following rpm's:

80 mph-3311

75 mph-3090

70 mph-2869

These are based on Roadtripr's numbers and then checked against Brucets's numbers with his 35's, so I believe they are close to correct.

Thanks guys!

that's looks about right. mine reads 3100 @ 70 because I haven't racalibrated my speedo. so the meter reads 70 but I'm actually doing about 74. so that looks right to me.

don't forget too that 285/75/16's are actually 32.8" tall since you're trying to get perfect numbers. haha. then you gotta account for the wear which would make them smaller diameter still.

(2 x (285mm x .75) / 25.4) + 16 = 32.83"

Yeah, yeah

I used 30.6 for the stock tires and 33 for the 285's. When we're at Crawfords, I wouldn't mind driving yours around the campground to feel the gear difference if that's ok?

an auburn person driving my 4runner? I don't think so, you can take pictures as long as you done touch anything or come within 5 feet of it! just kidding, if I get to go, looks like I should be able to at this point, then I don't have a problem with it. The main thing I notice is that the rpms sky rocket FAST in 1st and 2nd gears so you don't really want to have a lead foot off the line or you'll redline before you know it. my racing days are over since I regeared, unless I'm in 5th and I drop it into 4th on the interstate to overtake somebody. but it'll go real slowly over things offroad and I don't have to shift into 4L as often with the lower gears.

Sounds good, my racing days ended about 7.5 years ago with a big big ticket and some service to the community.

I got one my last year at Auburn. I wan't clocked, but they got me for racing on the highway. Glad they didn't clock me b/c I was going 155 in a 55. I was better off getting busted anyway b/c I was doing some pretty stupid driving back then. I have all slow vehicles now

Well, once my wifes '03 4runner is paid off I'm getting a '79-'80 or'81 Ferrari 308 GTB, GTBi, GTS, GTSi, or GTSQV doesn't matter (Just like Magnum's) and I'm going to do some restoration. not the fastest thing out but that's always been my dream car so as long as the guy in Houston doesn't flake out in the next 5 years, he'll be finding me one that needs work. so that's as fast as I'll ever be. of course, now that I've slowed down a bit I probably will treat it better.

At the moment my wife and I both have work vehicles provided, so the only vehicle we own is the 4Runner. I may buy her something in the next couple of years, such as a Evo, WRX, Forester XT, Mazda 3, or I just heard about a new Mazda 6 coming with a Turbo 2.3 and making 276 hp. She wants a smaller car, so I may take advantage of that and sneak in a fast economy box! Hope I don't end up then get a and end up with a and a
