3.4 rebuild

Hello, new member seeking guidance on my search for books or tutorial videos on the nuances and torque spec/sequences for rebuilding a toyota 3.4 v6. Bought a 96 4runner with what sounds like a rod tapping, and it has metal shavings in the oil filter. Trying to teach my son how to rebuild engines, and I'm having a hard time finding details on the process for building a stock toyota 3.4. have quite a bit of experience building chevy/ford/pontiac v8 engines, but have never built a toyota 3.4.
Thank you in advance for any guidance/suggestions you can provide.

Try to find a factory service manual. Maybe eBay or many of the Toyota forums have a resource section where you can download them. I have a 3.4 but I have yet to really tear into it. There's a few posts over on the IH8MUD forum (3rd gen 4Runner section) with head gasket, timing kits and other work. IDK if I have seen a complete rebuild though. Check all the forums with Toyota trucks that run the 3.4. like the Tacoma, T100 and 4Runners. Good luck with your project! Post it up your rebuild when you do.

Thanks for the input. I was able to find a pretty thorough tutorial in a Haynes manual so I'll probably follow that if I can't find anything else. Would love a video because I'm much more of a visual learner.

Take lots of pics and notes. Make carboard bolt holders and such so you can keep parts in the same order that they come out. Don't drop all your valve shims. Measure them. I'd think typical hot rod mods like port matching and blending bowls would be worth the effort. Good luck and have fun. Be sure to post it up here if you can.
