3.4 Misfire and oil issue

Hey guys,

New to the site, long time toyota owner, and on a lot of other forums. I've lurked here a bunch, and finally made an account.

I have a 03 PreRunner 3.4 with 287k on the clock that looks almost as new. All of the services have been done on it at the required time, with OEM parts. Timing chain is <25k old, and recently did the valve cover gaskets. No leaks anywhere.

The other night I started my truck with it was warm, gave it a rev, and heard a clank and she started to run rough. I turn it off, checked for leaks ect and found nothing. I restarted and the had a bad misfire. I ran the codes and its giving me P0300, misfire on cyl 1 & 2.
The Check Engine light is on, as well as the Oil light.

There is no coolant in the oil, and when I look in the oil fill, I don't see any oil movement. There is no knock or tapping yet.

I'm leaning to believe my oil pump gave up the ghost, but I've never heard of anyone having one go bad. But am stumped as to why there is a misfire at the same time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

First things first. DO NOT DRIVE your vehicle if the oil light is on until you can get a manual gauge on the motor to verify oil pressure or lack thereof.

A couple things could be at work here. The pump could have failed. They are simple. It’s a couple odd shaped pieces of metal that spin within each other forcing oil thru. If they were to wear down or a tooth break off then you could lose oil pressure. And let’s say something did break off and cause the crank position sensor to become misaligned, that would account for your miss.

Or the crank key sheared and it isn’t turning the pump and the crank induction ring moved (or is moving) then that would account for both.

Two collars on the rods broke. they were in the pan...

Options:
1. Sell truck, try and get 9k for it
2. Buy reman motor for 4000 shipped to me
3. Find used motors for got knows how much or from where (stuck on a caribbean island)
4. Swap a 4cyl with manual trans and 4x4 from a wrecked 98 doner in to it (not sure how much needs to be swapped over)
