3.0 question

Im fairly new to the 3.0. Do the belts make a fair amount of noise? Mine doesnt sound bad but just loud cold and warm. My 3.4 was much quieter. My belts dont look bad but i was curious if I should have them tightened up.

Thanks fellas

Mine has a constant squeak, I tightened it and it still squeaks even though it is tight enough.

edit: Don't know if it'll help but maybe read this, I asked a similar question..

The belts on my 3.0 in my old '90 would squeak when they got old. I used a belt dressing called "Belt-Ease", but after a few weeks the noise would return. The fix was new belts.

Squeak Free

Mine don't squeak, but I had them all replaced with my timing belt this past summer. I don't think my old ones squeaked either. I don't think I'd be able to hear it over my FIPK anyway.

Dude, my truck is LOUD! I heard 2 other 3.0's and they werent nearly as loud as my rig. There is a constant "whirring" noise that gets louder with increasing RPM's. At about 3k RPM's its pretty loud. No squeals or anything. Maybe pulley noise? You got the whirring too?

I listened closely today and also noticed a whinning noise all the time. Oh and on top of all that I have a high pitched sqeeling coming from the speedo cable. And lots of wind noise. I can barely hear on my cell phone while driving.

I also have squealing noises coming from either my pulleys or belts, but they only do it when they are cold. After the engine heats them up they stop doing it.

Make sure that your pulleys are lined up. When I first got my 4Runner the belts were noisy. I decided to put on new belts and when I started to do so, I discovered that the pulley behind the fan was on backwards. There is not much difference but enough to make the belts out of line so they rub on the sides of the pulleys. My truck had a new timing belt not too long before I got it and I think that was when the pulley got put on backwards.
