2nd gen. question...

Hi,

How long does it take for your 2nd Gen. 4Runners to warm up to the normal temperatures for the O/D to kick in?

Thanks

Maybe a couple miles at 60 deg air temperature.

Ya, right now it is in the mid-50's or so here. It takes me about 2 miles of driving ~30 mph to get fully warmed up.

Alex: Mine takes about 3 minutes.

When the temp sensor tube was clogged it would take 15-20 minutes and then it would never really get up to temp until I parked the truck and shut it down....the heat soak of the hot engine would then heat the coolant around the sensor to the point that it would allow the trans to shift into O/D. However, once I was rolling and the engine fan blew enough cooler air over the motor (like it should do) this would cool the coolant around the sensor off......this coolant is stagnant and is not being circulated through the rest of the motot and thus the temp sensor is not seeing fresh-hot coolant because the tube supplying it is clogged. Like I told you in the other post that you made regarding this subject and in an e-mail, once you blow that tube clear of the obstruction, the coolant will flow as it should, the sensor will see fresh-hot coolant consistently, and your truck will shift into O/D correctly and timely.

Trust me.....the same problem you have frustrated me for 6-8 months. I had a transmission shop jumping through hoops trying to figure out what was wrong with the trans.....when in fact there was nothing wrong with the trans....it was a problem in the sensor not getting a true read of the temp of the coolant flowing through the system.

I suugest you take it to the dealer....explain the problem and have them clear the coolant by-pass tube that feeds the coolant temp sensor. Your problems will then be solved.
