In my 90 model runner, it has a sunroof. I dont think they came that way factory. The headliner I have, which is like many in other cars, is the fabric with foam backing that is supposed to be glued to a shell. Well, the foam was all dry and flaking, and the material was flapping. So i pulled it all out. I found part of a hard shell in the back cargo area, but none forward. There is some evidence that one existed by remnents on the sides and very front at the windshield. it also looks like different material was used on these parts of the shell. I guess the shell was mostly cut out to put in the sunroof.

Can anybody shoot me some pics, or offer advice on how the origional headliner was set up and made? Any hints for installing a new one?

Just wanted to add, I think now that I remember, that the sunroof was installed in late 1989. There was a sticker in the runner with a date of 1989 from a company and it is for the sunroof install. I guess it was installed as a dealer option as i have read on a few other posts. Still, they did cut the headliner out and as I have read through the archives, it seems the headliner needed to be lowered to fit the sunroof, but they cut it instead.

Any advice?

 

I did some checking at a local yard and found a 2nd gen with the entire headliner in it. No sunroof. it does use different material than what mine was. They want $20.00 for it if I pull it. it looks in good shape. its brown though and I need grey. I guess I could recover it or paint it. Any ideas?
