2nd Gen Cabin Air Filter
I was just wondering if my 1993 4Runner comes with a cabin air filter. Sounds kinda weird to me, but I heard this from the previous owner, any truth to this?
Thanks for any responses...

In the Japan the 2nd gens have a stealer option installed cabin air cleaner. It mounts up to where the center dome light is, I think it is big and ulgy, with the blubs that come from the factory it almost provides no light. If you want a picture I can take one and send it to you
on all the ones that I have worked on there has been this sponge type filter (if that what you want to call it) between the fresh/recirc flap in the air box under the dash. But this thing would really only stop tree and large birds from getting in cause everything else does seem to pass through it.

Anyone got pic of the 2nd Gen sponge filter?
Any chance that could be mod'ed/upgraded to work with a better filter? It wouldn't take much to do better than what we have - which is basically nothing

The 2nd gen only has a couple of grills at the recirc air intake to filter any air, the fresh air intake has only the screen at the cowl. The "sponge" on the fresh air door is to seal the door when in either fresh or recirc position and does not filter air.
When I had to replace my 95s AC expansion valve about a year and a half ago I trimmed some screen door material and hot glued it to the grill openings, I had cleaned out a bunch of hair, carpet fibers and lint in the evaporator fins.
