Post 22RE junkyard alternator?

I'm thinking that I'd like to increase the output of my alternator. I don't have a ton of money, after just doing the head gasket and a few other things. So, I was wondering if anyone has swapped out an alternator from another vehicle. If not, I'm sure one could be retrofitted as well. Just thoughts...

You can do the MR2 alternator swap. That'll give you at least 100amps. The alternator has to be out of a (MK2) MR2 with power steering though.

In order to get it to fit, you need to extend the stock alternator bracket. It's not much, maybe 1.5" inches or so. You need to get a longer fan belt as well. The serpentine pulley on the MR2 alternator has to swapped out for the V-groove style pulley on your stock 22RE alternator. Using an impact wrench makes this job a piece of cake.

Of course, it's always a good idea upgrade the wiring harness leading to the alternator/starter when you do this mod too.

When I did a search for MK2 on Google, all of the information I came up with comes from the UK. Is this car not available in the US? Seems an alternator would be very hard to find if it isn't? If so, any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Yes, it's available in the U.S. MK2 just means the second generation Toyota MR2's. They're the '91-'95 MR2's that sort of look like a mini-Ferrari. I like to call them Toyota's little Ferrari.lol! MK1 would be the 1st generation MR2's made from '85-'89.

The reason I used the MK2 designation is because that's how most enthusiasts define the different generations of Toyota sports cars. Just like the Supra, MK4 would be the '93-'98 style cars and MK3 would be the '86-'92 style cars and so on.

Yeah, there is a Toyota named the MK2 (Mark II?) in Japanese domestic markets, but that's actually a separate car-line model in Japan.
