The Tundra will be getting the 4runners' 5 speed auto tranny and the VVT-i 4.7 Liter V8 only it will be tweaked to 282 HP and 328 TQ for 2005. The Tundra will also be getting the 4.0 liter V6 (same as the one found in the runner) as the base engine as opposed to the current 3.4.

I am more excited that the Tundra will be getting the new engine too! 282 horsepower and 328 Torque, is almost up to the Nissan Titan numbers.

Someone in that post mentioned that the Sequoia with the new engine is supposed to get 16/22 MPG. If we could get the same MPG from a 4WD V8 runner that would be awesome.

Yeah that's pretty impressive considering the Toyo's V8 is almost a full liter smaller. But the 4.7L has a secret weapon.... a S/C

I've been wondering the exact same thing myself about the Supercharger and the VVT-i 4.7 liter.

The Thing about Toyota is I think they could build a really good big diesel with their expierience building smaller diesels for years and years. I bet they'd have the Cummins sweating.

Isn't this hybrid-age an alternative to diesels? It's just as fuel efficient and powerful as a diesel?

Adam: Diesel is coming. So is a big V8 and so is an alternative to a big block V8...think more cylenders

CoedNaked: Toyota has been building big diesels for a long long time already. They have a heavy truck line outside the US called Hino. They make fire trucks and all kinds of big trucks. Toyota knows diesel. The problem is, a lot of American diesel buyers are VERY brand loyal. You don't know how many people hate dodge's but buy them just because of the cummins, and vice versa with ford. IMHO, the best thing would be for Toyota to scoop cummins out from under dodge. That would be GREAT!

RalleRunner: It will be a long long long time, if ever, that you get a hybrid that pulls like a diesel. The electric motors are great for start up torque but they would have to advace the technology for the hybrids to be able to hang on hills when loaded.

I heard 5 speed manny, yes. I don't think that alone will change your mind, it looks like.

You did not miss anything. I heard that the V-6 has will be getting a 5 speed manny on a different forum board. I could be wrong though.....

Later this year, when I get my black 2005 be sure to honk when you see me in Irvine/Newport Beach.

I wonder if they'll do any slight changes to the body styling. I like the front end of the new Tacoma coming out and would like to see it on the 4Runner.
