my 4runner has the common rear hatch issue. it is too rusty to latch shut so the back hatch never closes. if anyone knows how to help that would be great.

 

Spray penetrating oil into the pivoting points of the latch? Replace the latch?

/\ /\ /\ Exactly. Take the current latch out. See if you can clean it up. If you can't, try finding a junkyard and getting a different latch.

I think my wife took the latch on her '96 out and cleaned it, the problem was that some of the switches in it weren't working right and it was confusing the locking system.
