2000 4runner under dash wiring

Was having trouble with a P1780 trouble code (the tranny was not shifting out of 1st while in DRIVE. Tranny tested out fine and is in good condition)...initially replaced the Neutral Safety Switch but that did not solve the problem. Turns out I need a whole new under dash wiring cluster/harness. How interchangeable are the dash wiring systems compatible with one another in the 4runner 3rd generation series? I have a 2000 4runner 4x4 automatic, so do I need an identical year wiring harness or can I use another year model, such as a 98-99-2001?

I'd recommend the same year, if only because of the DRL circuit, which did not exist in 1999 and changed from 2000 to 2001. That whole system is under the dash. Pre-99 is out of the question because of the MPX communication with the rear that started in '99. '01-'02 also have major differences due to throttle by wire, ASC ATRAC, etc.

Thanks for the info, LUCKILY, I was able to find an identical year replacement cluster and got it installed.... took a hit to the wallet. Ur I'm back on the road again!! Just really quick, would you happen to know if a '99 4Runner frame will work on a '00 4Runner cab?? My '00 has rust problems so I'm looking to swap out the frame....

I put an '02 frame on my '99. '00 to '99 is no sweat as those years were clones except for ride height and DRL's. Only thing to watch is you have to move mounts (cut and weld) to put 2wd on 4wd or vice-versa. Also, I'm not sure about engine mounts on V6 vs. 4cyl. 4wd same engine you are good all years.

Yeah, it's a '99 4x2 4Runner frame that I'm looking at using ...
